This year's high-tech study tour to the French "Telecom Valley" was organized in collaboration with Côte d'Azur Development in Nice
France's Telecom Valley is situated between Cannes and Nice on the Riviera, a foremost region specializing in communication technologies and services spread out in several clusters. The largest one is in Sophia-Antipolis where 10,000 people work in more than 60 high tech companies of national and international renown
Program highlights
Sunday 9 May - We were 19 participants (16 nationalities) who arrived at the Windsor hotel in Nice
Monday 10 May - Introduction to Telecom Valley organized by Côte d'Azur Development at the chambre of commerce in Nice. followed by a visit to Sophia-Antipolis, the highlight was the meeting with Senator Lafitte, the founder of Sophia-Antipolis.
Tuesday 11 May - Visit to IBM Research in La Gaude situated in the foothills 25 kms from Nice. We were received by Mr. Jacques Gros, the site director with several presentations from IBM and AT&T.
Wednesday 12 May - Morning visit to W3C-INRIA-ERCIM in Sophia-Antipolis, afternoon visit to ETSI. In the evening we visited Astrorama in the hills near Eze, we were lucky to be able to observe several planets.
Thursday 13 May - Morning visit to Amadeus in Sophia-Antipolis, afternoon visit to Equant. In the evening we met with Ueli Hartmann, a Swiss entrepreneur from Monaco.
