"Open Standards"

Study Tour to Silicon Valley, 13 - 21 May 2007

The Silicon Valley Association (SVA) is organizing a spring study tour to Silicon Valley. The focus of the tour is "Open Standards" (hardware, software, communications). Without standards there would be no compatibilty between various hardware and software components: Operating Systems, Documents, MP3 Players, Phones, TVs, etc. can only interoperate with open standards. Many Silicon Valley companies have been at the forefront of open standards and many open standards were invented and implemented in California (TCP/IP, Ethernet, Java). We will be visiting exiting new companies as well as superstars like Apple, Google and SUN.

We will be staying in the heart of Silicon Valley in Palo Alto at the Stanford Terrace Inn next to the Stanford campus.

Who will you meet?

Entrepreneurs, Scientists, Incubators, CEOs, CIOs, Idea Managers, VCs, International Lawyers, etc.

Agenda:

Visits to companies/universities/organizations will last two to three hours. Silicon Valley leaders will speak at luncheons/dinners.

The tour is directed by Henri Slettenhaar, president of SVA, assisted by Genc Kastrati.

The cost of the tour is CHF 2'950.-, this includes 7 nights of single accommodation with breakfast, all items on the program including several dinners and local transportation. The airfare is NOT included and participants are requested to make their own reservations*. Shared accommodation is available for CHF 500.- less. For financial assistance/scholarship please contact the tour director.

*We highly recommend Browne's Travel in Bellevue for your airline reservations
